Best Turon Recipe, Ever.

Here's a quick and easy dessert that gives this classic Filipino treat some holiday spice! Turon is a caramelized banana or plantain egg roll: pretty much like deep fried bananas foster-ish goodness in an egg roll. There's something about biting into a sweet caramel covered, light and crisp egg roll wrapper, filled with a banana, eaten warm, that makes this pastry super satisfying. I love making Turon, but the extra added ingredients are the secrets to what makes this dessert even more delicious!

(Yields 24 Turons)


  • 12 ripe bananas, "Saba" bananas or plantains.

  • 24 egg roll/Lumpia wrappers (my fave is the Menlo brand; they're light, crispy and almost Filo-like. These can be found at your local asian market.)

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp. pink Himalayan sea salt

  • 1 stick of butter (real butter, avoid margarine)

  • 1 tsp. Pumpkin Spice

  • jackfruit (Langka) in syrup (the kind in a jar for Halo-halo dessert- optional)

  • Veggie oil (Enough for deep frying in a shallow frying pan.)

  • 1 egg for egg wash

  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat


1. Cut and divide your bananas in to half, length-wise and half width wise. Basically, dividing the entire banana into quarters.

2. Add a teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt to the brown sugar and 1 tsp. of Pumpkin spice.

3. Place 2 pieces of banana and 1 piece of jackfruit on top of the egg roll wrapper.

4. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp. of the sugar mixture on top of the banana and place a small pad of butter on top.

5. Roll up and seal the egg roll with egg wash.

6. Deep fry about 5-6 egg rolls (depending on how big your frying pan is. Avoid overcrowding), until they are lightly golden in color, then add 2 tbsp. of the remaining sugar mixture into the oil.

7. Allow the sugar to caramelize and with a pair of tongs, move the egg rolls in the oil around to catch the caramel and allow it to stick. You can also dip each egg roll and put it back into the pan.

8. Set unto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

9. Serve and enjoy!


-Banana Nutella. Just add Nutella during wrapping.

-Peanut Butter Banana. Just add Peanut Butter during wrapping.

-Banana Cheesecake. Add 1 tbsp. powdered sugar to 8 oz. of room temp cream cheese and add 1 tsbp. full of this mixture during wrapping.

-A la mode with Ice Cream! It's pretty much the best dessert, ever!
